Stats/Reflections
To start, here are a few stats on the overall journey.
Total trip length start to finish: 24 days
Total riding days: 21 days
Total miles: 2836 +- 5 miles. (the third to last day google maps blunder was the only non-exact day. I could figure it out, but don’t feel like it. I also spent 8 miles riding around Lake Havasu city, which is not listed on this blog)
Average miles per day: 135...
Riding day 21, Trip day 24
And so just as it began, it comes to an end. I rode through headwinds and rain for the last 112 miles into Jeckyll Island, GA. As I hit the beach I was greeted by my parents, Grandfather and DH. Journey from coast to coast complete. Maybe a reflection day tomorrow, for now I’m done.
Riding day 20, Trip day 23
Yesterday will go down as an extremely long and for the most part, uneventful day. It started off on the wrong foot though as I left Defuniac Springs. A part of me actually thought I would make it through the entire trip without wrecking on the bike, an idiot highway worker thought otherwise. I passed by a few highway litter clean up crews with their vehicles parked in the grass next to the...
Riding day 19, Trip day 21
After a great non-riding day relaxing, eating and watching football in Mobile, Al with my cousin and her friends I took off for the coast of Georgia. Mobile is an awesome little city and I do hope to make a return trip for their Mardi Gras celebrations someday. I wasn’t able to put the miles down I was hoping for today. Google maps led me to a dirt road that possibly didn’t go...
Riding day 18, Trip day 20
A long, hot day riding along the gulf coast from New Orleans to my cousins place in Mobile, AL. I spent 70 miles along inner water ways/white beaches and then 75 miles navigating shoulderless back roads into Mobile. It was nice to see a large body of water again and the views were pretty good for the most part yesterday. Today I’m hanging with my cousin and then will leave tomorrow for a ...
Riding day 17, Trip day 19
Today was an on off day for 155 miles from Opelousas to New Orleans. What I thought may be an easier route and same distance as google maps turned out to add 15 miles to the day. Which was fine, since my cyclometer doesn’t work and I had no idea any way. My route did however take me through some amazing roads and quaint small towns, much nicer than the freeway I was on. It eventually led...
Riding day 16, Trip day 18
Rode 140 miles from Jasper, TX to the deep south of Opelousas, LA. It was a fairly smooth sailing day. The roads for the first 120 miles were pristine. I retired my rear tire early in the morning after it’s 3rd flat in 3 days and put the spare tire on. I thought I would be flat less on the new rear tire for awhile, but during a late afternoon shower, my rear tire slipped into a narrow, deep...
Riding day 15, Trip day 17
Today was a nice 112 mile cruiser from Rusk, TX to Jasper, TX. Found some very nice asphalt and lots of trees to look at. Picked up fresh tubes and am on course for a Thursday arrival in New Orleans. Nothing exciting today, couple more dog chases and one verbal run in with a lady in a sedan. Apparently she doesn’t realize I’m not the same width of a sedan, so when I’m riding in...
Riding Day 14, Trip Day 16
I hopped back on the bike this morning after a great weekend in Dallas, TX. A weekend of live music, playoff baseball, a bills win, a little mind/body rejuvenation and calorie intake. All with a bunch of good people. Much needed after 4 days of west Texas. After a late start and two flats, I finally was out of the city limits and into the country side again. East Texas could be described as a...
